Belmont, Mass. —
Third-grade student, Brian Lin, 8, of Mrs. Chan’s class at the Butler Elementary School is working with his mother to raise money to fund holiday gifts for children that are ill, specifically will cancer.
Brian’s mother, Betty Tang, is fighting ovarian cancer herself and recently learned how to crochet hats in order to keep her mind occupied as she goes through various treatments.
According to Betty, it is very important she teach her son about the power of love and giving back. Betty feels that the love and support she’s received from friends and family has helped her fight her illness.
Both Brian, Betty and Butler’s School Psychologist Jessica Eisner, will be selling crocheted hats and Christmas tree ornaments outside near the playground before school on Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Wednesday, Dec. 12.
The money raised will be used to buy holiday gifts for children fighting illness in Belmont and surrounding towns.
Crocheted hats will be $8 or $10 and Christmas tree ornaments will be $1 or $2.
Additional sale dates have yet to be determined.
