Among the 41 baseball players with rotator cuff tears, only 7 (3 with tears of the supraspinatus tendon, 2 with infraspinatus tears, and 2 with both tendons torn) had shoulder pain; 83% (34 of 41 tears) were asymptomatic rotator cuff tears, compared with pain in 9 (20%) of the 46 baseball players without rotator cuff tears (Table 1). The rate of shoulder pain did not differ significantly among players with articular-sided partial-thickness rotator cuff tears (17%) or intact rotator cuffs (20%) (P = .76).
