After the two dialogues mentioned above (14:4-6 and 14:7-9), Jesus continues to explain what he meant with those words of 14:1-3. First, he mentions the intimate relationship between himself and the Father: NRS John 14:10 “Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells (me,nwn) in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves.” The Father dwells in Jesus. The Greek verb ‘dwell’ (me,nw) shares the same root with the noun monh,, which is mentioned above. Jesus, then, mentions about the Holy Spirit, who will soon come and be with the believers forever: NIV John 14:16 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” God is going to dwell in man through the Holy Spirit.
