The luxury of a phased long-term implementation project is not, however, available when the success of the product is largely being judged on the basis of its appeal to visitors – and the compromises entailed in fast-tracking the opening of the system (e.g., the use of low salinity irrigation water; import of non-indigenous plant stock; sourcing of plants from different genetic stock; etc.) risk compromising the final ecological outcome. By the same token, however, if funding is withdrawn because major funders lose interest in a project that is not showing visible results for a considerable financial investment, the ecological outcome will also be affected.
