4.1. Task 4.1: Comparison of cooling systems (classical – HTRC) in lab by insert trials on
the CRM pilot line (CRM)
4.1.1. Introduction
The objective of this task is to study the effect of two cooling systems on the roll surface temperature
evolution. These trials were planned to be performed with special work rolls where different roughing
work roll grades are ‘inserted’ inside the roll. During these trials the roughing mill conditions will be
simulated (entry temperature, contact time …) similar to the trials that were performed last year to
evaluate the impact of the starting roughness on the degradation evolution. By performing identical
trials with both cooling systems, a comparison can be made.
