Dear Yinghao,
I’m sending this message because there is a chance you may be confused about Purdue’s requirement for the ALEKS math assessment. Some students have received mixed messages about whether the assessment is required, so I’m writing to clarify.
The Real Deal
The ALEKS math assessment is no longer required for new Purdue students with an SAT Math score of at least 650 or an ACT Math score of at least 29.
You are receiving this message because you have met or exceeded that threshold and are no longer required to complete ALEKS. Your academic advisor will be able to use your highest SAT/ACT Math score to assist you with course selection.
If you have completed the assessment, please accept my sincere apologies for loss of the time you invested.
Why the Transition and Confusion?
For students of your ability, my department has found that SAT/ACT scores are a better guide for math placement. Eager to facilitate your and your classmates’ transition to Purdue, we shared this information with academic advisors, letting them know ALEKS would not be required for these students. We did not realize students had already been receiving information about ALEKS being a requirement and therefore did not foresee the potential for confusion.
Again, please accept my apologies for the conflicting messages you may have received. I wish you all the best as you finalize your preparation for Purdue.
Sincerely,
Greg Buzzard
