All solutions were prepared with water (1Scm−1) from a
Whatman Analyst Purifier,methanesulfonic acid (Aldrich, 70 wt.%)
and lead(II) oxide (Alfa Aesar, 99.9%). The lead methanesulfonate
was formed by the reaction:
PbO + 2CH3SO3H → Pb(CH3SO3)2 +H2O (5)
using the calculated weight of lead oxide and volume of acid to
obtain the desired electrolyte composition.
