Education is associated most commonly in popular discourse withschooling. But of course they are not necessarily synonymous - andindeed there are many who would argue that they are mutually exclusive. One of the main premises on which the case for educational theatreis built is the idea that education is not the exclusive preserve of schools. We can all learn from a variety of experiences and in a variety of settings, and theatre may offer certain kinds of educational experiences by virtueof its not being school-based.
