These aimed at balancing interactions between environmental, economic and social dimensions in rapidly changing urban areas and included the classification of the United Nation’s Commission on Sustainable Development’s Theme Indicator Framework (DiSano, 1995; Beatley and Manning, 1997; OECD, 2002; Portney, 2003; UN-CSD, 2005) and the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Report, Biodiversity and Human Wellbeing: A Synthesis Report for the Convention on Biological Diversity.
