It seems appropriate to point out in a general way that the
meanings of definitions must be shared and the consensus is
essential in the shaping of designs and relations.
Basic definitions must be communal rather than individual.
The grounding and bonding have a combined but distinct
function that needs to be understood separately in order to
correctly apply equipment in the most beneficial manner.
A better understanding of the electrical principles will assist
the engineer in implementing the requirements in a manner
that best provides for the needs of a specific design function.
For this reason the IEC standard 60364 [1] introduces a
comprehensive definition of protective conductor PE
(conductor provided for purposes of safety) and specifies the
two definitions for PE:
1) equipment conductor (provided for protective grounding)
