Kin selection explains countless forms of altruism such as the foundations of multicellularity, cooperation in insect societies, and parental care. Importantly, devices shaped by kin selection, such as mammary glands or parental affection, are not designed to induce reciprocating behavior in the recipient but rather to increase their welfare.
