It is essential that data be collected before making assumptions about performance. Returning to basic audiologic principles, audiologists need to test to be certain a child is hearing what we think she is hearing. Real-ear measures, the eCAP, and the eSRT are important tools, but they do not tell us what is reaching the brain. Only behavioral testing of thresholds with technology and speech perception testing in multiple conditions will validate how a child is performing.
