Nanjing 2014 well on track for successful summer Youth Olympic Games
With less than one year to go to the second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, preparations are well on track for “an excellent and successful”event. This message was delivered by the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (NYOGOC), and it was explained that the success of the recent Asian Youth Games held in the city, where Nanjing’s venues, facilities and Games-operations were fully tested, had “paved the way” for memorable YOG next year.
All existing and new venues, including the Youth Olympic Village, are on schedule for renovation or completion by April 2014, with the green and low-carbon concept at the core of all projects. Communication with all key stakeholders has been established; NYOGOC has successfully unveiled its mascot, NANJINGLELE, to the world and launched a new website; and two successful Youth Olympic Culture Festivals have helped NYOGOC develop an innovative Culture and Education Programme.
Moving forward, NYOGOC will concentrate on fine-tuning its operational structure to ensure “simple yet efficient organisation” and using key opportunities, such as the Torch Relay, to spread the YOG spirit to the world and let everyone know that a warm welcome awaits in Nanjing.(210)
