The flow of costs in job order cost accounting parallels the physical flow of the materials as they are converted into finished goods. There are 2 major steps in the flow of costs: 1 accumulating the manufacturing costs incurred and 2 assigning the accumulated costs to the work done. As shown in Illustration, manufacturing costs incurred are accumulated in entries 1-3 by debits to Raw Materials Inventory, Factory Labor, and Manufacturing Overhead.The remaining entries (entries 4-8) pertain to the assignment of manufacturing costs incurred.
