The Mononobe-Okabe analysis has been the conventional method of
estimating the lateral soil pressures for seismic design of retaining walls.
The influence of different parameters in Eq. 2 has been extensively analyzed
by Seed and Whitman (15). The difficulty in the use of this equation
is in its choice of appropriate values of kn and kv.
The wall displacement per se is not important in the analysis, except
that it should be enough to mobilize the full shear strength of the soil.
