In the first decade of the 1800s, a Lemhi Shoshone teenager underwent one of the most difficult and dangerous journeys in American history. As the only woman in the group, she faced isolation. She also faced hunger, disease, harsh weather and challenging terrain - all while caring for the baby. The girl was Sacagawea (sah-kah-gah-WEE-ah), one of the most famous Native women in American history.
