An important limiting factor for telesurgery is the vestibulo-ocular disruption known as simulator sickness. This results from the lag time in transmission between the sending and receiving sites, and occurs when the receiving operator is wearing a head-mounted VR display. Over 50percent of VR system users experience dizziness, nausea, or headaches
within twenty minutes of donning VR headgear. Simulator sickness is minimized when images are sent over high bandwidths with little compression(Allen, Bowersox, & Jones, 1997).
