Prototyping for the Saber2 project saw a lot of progress with some work still to be completed. The highest priority goal for this project was the weight and rolling resistance – which makes the tread extrusion component very tricky to get right. After multiple iterations, there is much confidence that the plan made at the end of the trip will be successful. Multiple iterations were made for 3 different tread specifications with each narrowing to the desired weight and rubber gage. The other agenda items all saw progress between the Pinner project samples builds and new manufacturing equipment. The Pinner project was supported in real time, reporting back to KATC information about new samples. The new manufacturing equipment was demoed and detailed by KDTC staff, illuminated the capabilities and restrictions of each. Overall the trip was valuable to the Saber2 project and KATC-KDTC cooperation to develop new tires and improve current product.
