Feed in tariffs seem to be more effective in promoting the use of solar power in Japan than the earlier standard renewable energy ratio scheme.<br>This is reflected in the fact that in the five years since the introduction of feed in tariffs (i.e. 2012-2016), solar installed capacity has reached 41.6 gigawatts, recording an increase of more than five times.<br>In 2016, more than 2 million households in Japan installed solar photovoltaic systems at home, with a penetration rate of 7%.<br>
