In this study, a sound 3D rigid-plastic FE model of cold rotary
forging of a 20CrMnTi alloy spur bevel gear is established utilising
the DEFORM-3D code, in which the mechanical properties of investigating
material 20CrMnTi alloy are obtained from the tensile
tests and the realistic friction conditions are determined by ring
compression tests performed with different lubricants. FE analysis
provides detailed information on the forming panorama, forming
load, metal flow and effective strain, which can be incorporated
into process design. The following conclusions can be drawn from
