Athletes who have acquired the proper technique for the Olympic lifts in their younger years may be more apt to continue to use these lifts successfully as they mature. Less time and energy is required for teaching and maintaining technique for these athletes. Additionally, appropriate loads for motorunit recruitment can be achieved more easily and at much less risk for athletes with Olympic weightlifting backgrounds. However, care must still be taken when applying loads to these athletes due to their advanced capabilities, particularly during phases with high volumes of high-velocity sprinting and during in-season tapering periods
