On the other hand, prolonged exposure to MPs has species-specific impacts on corals, including decreased coral calcification, and slowed skeletal growth. The impacts of MPs on coral reefs are raising significant concern because of tremendous biodiversity and economic importance . Thus, the effects of MPs must be explored more thoroughly because the pervasive MPs can harm coral health directly or indirectly via a variety of pathways. A thorough understanding of the MP incidence, causes, and risks in coral reef systems is urgently required (Table 1).
