The competent pianist evolved into a gifted photographer. Ansel Adams's keen eye spurred him on to master the technical aspects of his new love. He arrived each year at Yosemite encumbered with unwieldy photographic gear, notebooks, and maps. He was willing to toil herculean hours if the effort helped improve his skills. Yet, despite a rigorous workload, he would allow himself the occasional harmless carousel with his ever-widening circle of friends and colleagues.
