This example shows how the concept of preallocation of total float and the corresponding bookkeeping procedures can be applied to project schedules. After successfully applying it to this example, the concept and the corresponding bookkeeping procedures were applied to the project schedule of a real construction project to determine its capability of handling actual scheduling situations. The project chosen for this purpose was the Alumni Continuing Education Center Hotel Complex (ACECHC) being constructed on the Virginia Tech golf course. The as-planned project schedule had over 900 activities and the contractor was generous in providing schedule updates every month to facilitate this research. Describing this implementation was beyond the scope of this paper due to length concerns. However, a detailed account of this implementation is found in Ambani (2004).
