A female infant was delivered at gestational age of 38 5/7 weeks by Cesarean section (for fetal distress) from a 35-year-old mother who had an older child. The mother was not diagnosed with any thalassemias or other hematological disorders in the past. The maternal blood group was type A, Rh positive, with a hematocrit of 34.5%, and a mean corpuscular volume (MCV) of 88.9 fL before the pregnancy. She had received amniocentesis at 20 weeks due to her age being over 35-year-old andan abnormal AFP/HCG ratio in routine Down’s syndrome screening. The karyotype result was 46XX.
