Evaluation of the submitted specimens reveal necrotizing and non-suppurative encephalitis with areas of monotypic lymphoid cells. Encephalitis secondary to lymphoma is possible because there are areas mainly composed of monotypic lymphoid cells. Lymphoma may cause tissue response and necrosis, and thereby induce severe inflammation. However, due to the presence of possible microorganisms, encephalitis caused by infectious etiology, such as protozoa, algae, fungi, are highly suspected. Nevertheless, the microorganism-like cells can be macrophages which ingest cell debris and degenerate inflammatory cells. Therefore, PAS, B&B, and Acid-fast stainings are requested to highlight the possible microorganisms. An updated report will be forwarded once the result is available.
