“Human readable” refers to the ability a person has to determine the content of a file (or folder) from its name alone. For example, "IMG_0001.jpg” indicates that the file is in the JPEG format via the extension, but the name does not tell much else. From the file extension, some people might be able to discern that this is likely a digital photograph, but that is about it. However, a name such as "2016 12-5_Malawi_basket-makerooo7.jpg" indicates a bit more about the content of the file. By listing a specific date, a geographic location, and a cultural practice, the file name tells a user just enough about it to help them decide what they might learn by opening or examining it further.
