For children with hearing loss to acquire good speech production and morphemic functions in spoken English, they must be able to clearly perceive all of the ~ 44 phonemes of the language. Although the Ling six-sound test is helpful in determining whether a child has access across the speech spectrum, it provides us with a very limited understanding of a child’s phoneme perception.
