Argumentativeness
an individual’s ability to defend his position on a controversial issue while simultaneously attempting to refute another person’s position on the same issue (Infante & Rancer, 1982)
rationally discusses a topic and does not engage in personal attacks against others
Highly argumentative: 1) more likely to initiate an argument and less likely to back away; 2) feel more motivated to argue (Rancer & Infante, 1985); 3) have a greater number of positive beliefs about arguing (Rancer, Baukus, & Infante, 1985); 4) perceive an argument as more enjoyable (Rancer, Kosberg, & Baukus, 1992); 5) often grow more involved in interactions (Onyekwere, Rubin, & Infante, 1991)
