God, who “gives all men life and breath and everything else” (Acts 17:25), occasionally uses angels to provide things we need. Among these provisions are both physical and spiritual strength. One excellent indication of this involves our Lord as He faced the cross. On the eve of His crucifxion, Jesus experienced great agony as He prayed in anticipation of all that was involved in the redemption of mankind. Thus Luke, who records this crucial time in 22:41–44, notes that “being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground” (v. 44). In distress, He prayed: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (v. 42). At this point, “An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him” (v. 43).
