Referral ProcessReferrals to the FMU for a fetal echocardiogram occur as described in the general referral pathway to the FMU (see high-risk guideline 1.2 Referrals to Fetal Medicine Unit)The following scans should be offered by the obstetrician or fetal medicine midwife:• A nuchal translucency (NT) scan in Fetal Medicine at 12 weeks gestation (if the woman has had a previous pregnancy with a major cardiac abnormality requiring surgery or resulting in a termination of pregnancy).
