The 索科劳瓦 River crosses the northern part of the city. The river’s natural flow had gradually disappeared, replaced nowadays mostly by discharges from stormwater outlets. The channel was regulated by concrete slabs in order to straighten the course and deepen the bed for runoff detention. Nevertheless, the middle section of the valley maintained semi-natural patches of meadows, wetlands and forests and that made this section appropriate as a pilot area for application of ecohydrological measures (Figure 9.10).
