Das elektrisch schaltbare Motorlager kann
zwischen den beiden Betriebszuständen
dynamisch weich (für Leerlauf) und Dämpfung
(für An-/Abstellen und Fahrbetrieb) geschaltet
werden.
Um das Lager auf Dämpfung zu schalten wird der Magnet bestromt, wodurch die Bohrung (s. Bild) luftdicht verschlossen wird, die eingeschlossene Luft als Luftfeder wirkt. Die Hydraulik baut Dämpfung auf.
Im weich geschalteten Zustand ist die Bohrung zur Umgebung hin offen, die Membran oberhalb der Luftfeder arbeitet weich, die hydraulische Dämpfung „bricht zusammen“.
Das Ziel der Schaltbarkeit ist ein dynamisch möglichst weiches Lager im Leerlaufbetrieb zu haben, um eine möglichst gute Abkopplung der Leerlaufvibrationen zu ermöglichen. Dagegen wird im Fahrbetrieb für einen guten Fahrkomfort Dämpfung benötigt.
Die Steuerung des elektrisch schaltbaren Motorlagers erfolgt über das Motorsteuergerät.
