In turn, the nurse needs to teach patients about the important signs associated with their symptom, such as noting the amount and color of the patient’s vomitus. Other objective dimensions, such as pallor (lack of normal coloring of the face) which is a common sign associated with vomiting can be observed by both the patient and the nurse. However, in some instances only the nurse may note the manifestation of pallor, and while the patient is experiencing the symptom of nausea or weakness it is often the nurse that notes the patient’s pallor. It is important that both the manifestations and the patient’s perception of the symptom be taken into account.
