This could indicate that miR395 translocation from shoot to root is required for root miR395 expression in the WT, but further experiments will be needed to substantiate this assumption. The earlier studies of miR399 translocation do not allow any conclusions about the (non) existence of such a crosstalk, since a comparable graft situation of a stressed WT rootstock with an "unstressed" (not miRNA-producing) scion cannot be achieved when grafting overexpressors with WT plants [2,3].
