United Parcel Service Ground (UPS) or FedEx Ground (FedEx)
We require the use of UPS Ground or FedEx Ground on all shipments with a total weight less than 150 lb. (unless otherwise specified in the routing instructions). All UPS Ground or Fedex Ground shipments should be made on a "Prepaid and Bill" basis. L.L.Bean prefers truck shipments over UPS and FedEx, so please combine small shipments whenever possible to get over the 150 lb. weight break.
Less Than Truckload (LTL)
Shipments with a total weight greater than 150 lb. but less than truckload should be shipped by your designated LTL carrier. The designated carrier is listed in your Routing Instructions. If you haven't been provided the Routing Instructions for your shipments, please contact our Transportation Department. All LTL shipments should be billed collect unless specifically authorized by L.L.Bean's Transportation Department. Do not ship out more than one LTL shipment per week without prior written authorization. Multiple LTL shipments may result in a chargeback. Please refer to the Chargeback Policy for more information.
Truckload (TL)
Truckload shipments are identified as those exceeding half a 48 ft. trailer in either weight or cubic volume. There are many opportunities to reduce the freight costs on large shipments, so we require the vendor to call the L.L.Bean Transportation Department for special routing instructions, prior to making a shipment that meet these specifications. All truckload shipments must be secured with a seal and the seal number must be written on the Bill of Lading prior to tendering cargo to carrier.
Domestic Air Freight
Domestic Air Freight shipments must be authorized by either an L.L.Bean Inventory Buyer or the Transportation Department.
Invoices submitted for prepaid airfreight shipments that have not been approved will not be paid.
Collect Air Freight shipments without prior approval will result in a chargeback (see Chargeback Policy).
At the discretion of L.L.Bean, vendors will be accountable for air shipment charges if they are at fault for shipments that are delayed beyond agreed upon ship dates.
If you plan to air freight into U.S. and are Importer of Record, please refer to Air Import Instructions.
