DFG has also been reported in many remote coral reef habitats. Watters et al. (2010) found monofilament fishing line and other plastic debris in deep benthic habitats off the coast of California that appear to be habitats for gorgonian corals, but there was no disruption, and some of the trash was even used as a habitat by fish and other invertebrates. Twenty-five transects of the Aleutian Island’s Ocean floor were examined for disruptions from bottom fishing gear, and five of those transects had derelict longline gear . The consequences of DFG are going to be worse near future if effective management strategies are not formulated and legalized globally. So appropriate techniques to track and recover the DFG from the coral reef habitat have to be adopted to protect and conserve the coral reef biodiversity.
