Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a massive clear-out this summer with a number of big names expected to leave the club, according to the Telegraph.
One player expected to leave is Brazilian midfielder Paulinho with the above source claiming it could only be a matter of weeks until the player departs White Hart Lane.
Reports: Zenit St Petersburg chasing Tottenham’s Paulinho
Paulinho was part of the raft of players who joined Spurs, the managed by Andres Villas-Boas, in the wake of Gareth Bale’s record-breaking transfer to Real Madrid but has failed to live up to expectations. As per the Telegraph, Spurs paid around £17 million to bring the midfielder to the Premier League from his native Brazil.
Paulinho completed 5/8 attempted take-ons in the league last term.
After an encouraging start to life in England, the midfielder’s form dramatically dipped with his work-rate often criticised. New boss Mauricio Pochettino appeared to be equally unimpressed with Paulinho, and only utilised the player on 15 occasions in the league last season. Of those 15 appearances, 12 came from the bench.
When he was on the pitch the 26-year-old made little impact creating just four chances and scoring no goals.
Paulinho was very wayward with his shooting last season- recording a 29% shot accuracy.
Metro has previously reported that the midfielder could return to the club that sold him to Spurs, with Corinthians’ sporting director Edu Gaspar having confirmed their interest.
Heading into his second season at the club Pochettino is reportedly looking to give Spurs’ squad a makeover, with 10 players expected to depart according to the previous Telegraph report.
