Our results also indicate that sense of control, psychomotorspeed, and inductive reasoning uniquely predicted basic computerproficiency. The variables predictive of computer adoption andbreadth of computer experience in Czaja and colleagues' (2006)study are similar to those predictive of basic computer proficiencyin our study. This might be due to the nature of the basic computerproficiency factor. Basic computer proficiency captures abilitiesessential to interacting with a computer (i.e., open/close a computer, input with keyboard and mouse), which are among the firstmilestones to use a computer or gain any computer experience.
