Development of musculoskeletalinjuries is a significant risk in both lowerand upper limbs. In the upper limb, wristinjuries are the most common, such asDe Quervain’s tenosynovitis associatedwith extra loading due to changing, bathing and nursing. Ideally this wouldbe prevented with some light but regularwrist strengthening and range-of-motionexercises in the antenatal period. Lowerlimb injuries, such as plantar heel pain, can occur because of a sudden increasein walking on return to exercise and withweight gain as an additional risk factor.
