Back pain in children and adolescents is becoming more common, and
nonspecific back pain in this pop- ulation has become more prevalent,
especially among adolescents. Radi- ography is indicated in most cases of
such pain, and a careful history and physical examination can help the
clinician identify signs that warrant advanced imaging for diagnosis of
the source of pain. Knowing the clinical and radiographic features of
the most common etiologies of pedi- atric back pain can help the clinician
effectively identify and treat the con- ditions causing this pain.
