Quantifying social impacts is an important step in the pursuit of social sustainability, and there are a plethora of measures that might be utilized in the future. The Social Hotspots Database, which provided the initial research for this work, offers data indicators for a range of social themes (Benoit et al., 2012a, b). These include overarching indicators such as life expectancy and averagewages as well as indicators specific to certain impacts, such as percentages of child labor by sector. Indicators like these will be important for future validation of social impact research.
