Regardless of the availability of medical personnel to your team, as a coach you should always be qualified to respond to emergencies by being certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and sport first aid (see the appendix to read about the ASEP Sport First Aid course). Moreover, as we’ll discuss in chapter 20, you should have a written plan for responding to emergencies that you and all support personnel know well.
