Presentation software has become so routine and so expected that in a real sense the speaker has become a supplement to the slide show, not the other way around. The presenter is there principally to advance the slides. The day may not be far off when presentations consist of a slide show given to a room of laptop webcams recording the show for later study. We are reminded of the quip that describes a professor's lectures as a means of transferring what is in the professor's notes into the student's notes without filtering it through the mind of either.
