Because age influences the
endorsement of agency and communion (Chapman,
Duberstein, Sorensen, & Lyness, 2007; Diehl, Owen, &
Youngblade, 2004), and because this was a community
sample with a considerable age range (19–45 years), we
included age (mean-centered) as a covariate in our analyses.
Although the order in which oxytocin and the placebo
were administered was initially included as a
predictor, it had no effect on the results, so we did not
include this variable in the final analyses.
