Wide exposure to many of the world’s cultures through travel stimulates our critical faculties. We are more likely to evaluate why we do certain things as well as to ascertain what preconceptions for behavior and demeanor we all have. Likewise, in the next encounter, when someone appears ill-mannered, we might pause a second or two to consider the possible reasons for this before condemning him as one of “those people”. Finally, while travel is no panacea for the world’s ills, understanding through exposure to other cultures might prove to be an educational adventure as well as a way to strengthen bonds among the world’s peoples.
