The book of Acts also records the second example of angelic guidance (10:1–8). In this incident, an angel appeared to Cornelius, a righteous, Gentile God-fearer* who observed some of the practices of Judaism. Naturally, Cornelius was shocked by this heavenly visitation and fearful; so the angel addressed him reassuringly and instructed him to send for Peter (a Jew). Although it was not immediately apparent, God intended for Peter to instruct Cornelius in the ways of God. Meanwhile, God prepared Peter for his mission by giving him an unusual vision. Then while the apostle reflected on it, the Spirit spoke to him, telling him what to do.
