1. KMT to pick new presidential candidate on October 17
The K-M-T has announced it will hold a special party congress in Taipei on October 17-th to select a new presidential candidate to replace Hung
According to party sources, a decision on whether or not to revoke Hung's candidacy could be made at the congress by applause, a show of hands, or a paper ballot.
If the K-M-T votes to remove her, the congress will immediately be recessed so that the party's nomination committee can recommend a new candidate.
The recommendation would then have to be approved by the party's Central Standing Committee before being put to a vote of approval by the congress.
If the committee votes to remove Hung, the K-M-T is expected to name party Chairman Eric Chu as its new candidate for the January 16-th election.
Hung's campaign office says she has not given up her fight to retain her candidacy and is working hard to convince all party delegates that her ideasand ideals are worthy of their support.
