In the pathogenicity test, Eucalyptus amplifolia and E. rudis, which have not been reported as host plants, were infected with P. psidii (Fig. 3). In addition, we confirmed
that this rust fungus infected E. camaldulensis, E. microcorys, E. tereticornis, E. viminalis, and Myrtus communis as previously reported (Alfenas et al. 2003; Coutinho et al.1998; Rayachhetry et al. 2001) (Table 1). Because P. psidii has a wide host range in the family Myrtaceae, measures should be taken to prevent spread of this rust to eucalyptus,myrtle, and other plants cultivated in Japan.
