Hi Shayna,
Here are some basics of fuming: I assume you are speaking of fuming borosilicate glass. For you can fume soft glass as well.
Fuming with silver gives you blues, and whites, heavy fuming with silver can give yellows.
Fuming with gold gives you pinks, cranberry, etc, you can even fume to the point of making something look gold plated.
The right combination of gold and silver can give you beautiful "beetle wing" green colors, aquas, etc.
To fume with silver, use a soft reducing flame.
To fume with gold, use a more streamlined, penetrating reducing flame.
Hold the silver or gold close right to the edge/end of the candles, and your glass to be fumed should be held further out in the back (cooler region) of the flame.
An oxidizing flame will make the fuming go away, and a more reducing flame will "bring it back". So, you can strike and restrike after fuming.
When casing your fuming with clear, be careful not to burn off the fuming, so use a softer flame when casing fuming. When backing a fumed pendant, use a dark color like dark plum, ninja, or onyx. This can make the fuming pop!
CAUTION:
By the way, always use good ventilation when fuming, or wear a respirator to keep you from inhaling any fumes. I reccomend using both good ventilation and a good respirator.
Ok, hope this helps,
God Bless,
Lance
